Itinerary
The Sacred Valley of the Incas is located 45 minutes away from Cusco city and serves as the gateway to the world wonder, Machu Picchu. This unforgettable journey begins at approximately 07:30 AM.
Our first stop is Cochahuasi Animal Sanctuary, where you’ll encounter some of Peru’s most iconic wildlife, including the Andean condor—the second largest bird on the planet—along with pumas, spectacled bears from the tropical forests, and vicuñas, Peru’s national animal.
Next, we’ll visit the Taray viewpoint, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the Andes mountain range, which stretches across South America. From here, we continue to the Pisac archaeological site, home to an impressive ancient cemetery with more than 2,000 tombs. We’ll also visit the colorful Pisac market, famous for its handmade textiles and traditional crafts, where you can witness an authentic Andean market still preserving ancestral trading customs.
The tour continues along the Vilcanota River, reaching Urubamba, the capital of the Sacred Valley, where we will stop for a delicious lunch (1-hour break).
After lunch, we’ll explore the Maras salt mines, an extraordinary site where locals still practice traditional salt extraction methods passed down for generations. You’ll have the chance to learn about their culture and witness firsthand the unique salt terraces.
Next, we visit Moray, a fascinating Inca agricultural laboratory located at 3,800 meters above sea level. Here, the Incas experimented with over 3,000 types of potatoes and 300 types of corn, showcasing their advanced agricultural techniques.
We then continue to Ollantaytambo, an ancient Inca fortress over 500 years old, where you can see locals still living in traditional Inca homes, wearing their typical Andean attire.
At the end of our Sacred Valley adventure, we will board the Expedition train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes at 19:04 PM. Upon arrival, our guide will escort you to your 3-star hotel and coordinate the details for your Machu Picchu visit the next day.
On the second day, we recommend starting early and coordinating with your guide to witness the stunning sunrise over Machu Picchu. This also helps avoid large crowds from later train arrivals.
Our professional tour guide will lead a 2-hour and 30-minute guided tour inside Machu Picchu Citadel, allowing you to capture breathtaking postcard-worthy photos and explore every corner of this ancient wonder.
After your guided tour, you can choose between:
- Walking to the Inca Bridge, an impressive stone structure carved into the cliffs, offering incredible views of the Inca Trail.
- Hiking to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), the traditional entrance to Machu Picchu for Inca travelers, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the entire citadel.
For those looking for an extra adventure, you may also choose to climb Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu Mountain—both offering spectacular aerial views of the ruins. (We recommend booking these tickets at least 3 months in advance due to high demand.)
Return to Cusco
After your visit, you will take the bus from Machu Picchu Citadel back to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll have time to relax and enjoy lunch.
Later, you will board the Expedition Train back to Ollantaytambo, departing at 16:22 PM. Upon arrival, our Kenko Adventures transfer team will be waiting for you with a INKA TRAIL PERU.INFO LOGO to provide private transportation back to Cusco city, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.

The climate in our country is highly variable and does not follow the traditional four seasons. Here, in just one day, you can experience all four seasons! That’s why we recommend our visitors be prepared for any weather conditions, whether rain or sunshine.
A very important factor affecting our climate is global warming, which has become a major concern due to the melting glaciers in the Peruvian Andes. This phenomenon also impacts the usual weather patterns.
However, something very distinct in our country, especially in the Andean regions, is that we only have two main seasons throughout the year:
- Dry Season: This season lasts from the end of April until the end of September. During this time, the first rains start to appear, but overall, it is the best period to visit our region and explore the breathtaking Machu Picchu while avoiding weather-related inconveniences.
- Rainy Season: This season extends from October until the end of April. During this period, we advise all visitors to pack their belongings in waterproof bags, as the weather can change quickly—sunny mornings can turn into heavy rain in just a few hours.
We understand that extreme climates exist worldwide, but this should not deter us from the desire to explore the world, discover marvelous cultures, and interact with them. Welcome to Peru and Machu Picchu!

This mountain is located within the Machu Picchu Archaeological Park, rising 300 meters above the Machu Picchu Inca Citadel. The hike takes approximately 45 minutes up and another 45 minutes down.
Huayna Picchu Mountain preserves several archaeological remains, including the Moon Temple and other structures connected by authentic Inca trails, steps, tunnels, and naturally formed caves, making the journey even more fascinating. Undoubtedly, this is one of Machu Picchu’s top attractions. From the summit, Huayna Picchu offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the Machu Picchu Inca Citadel, Machu Picchu Mountain, and the famous Sun Gate (Inti Punku).
Currently, the Peruvian government, through the Ministry of Culture, regulates daily visitor access to the mountain. Only 400 tickets are available per day, divided into two groups of 200 each. The first entry slot is from 7:00 to 8:00 AM, and the second from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Due to its increasing popularity, we highly recommend booking at least three months in advance to secure your visit to this extraordinary place.
This mountain is also located within the park and is only a 1 hour and 20-minute hike on your own. Once you reach the summit, you’ll capture stunning photos with panoramic views of the entire valley where the Machu Picchu Inca Citadel is situated. You’ll also enjoy breathtaking views of the Andes Mountain range and the glaciers that protect this unique ecosystem.
The demand for permits to hike this mountain is rapidly increasing. For this reason, we recommend booking at least two months in advance, as there is a daily visitor limit for this incredible experience. The hike has two entry schedules: the first from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, and the second from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, with a maximum of 200 people per group.
